- A California State Guard
camp established at Lake Hemet in 1942 as the 3d Area Field Training
Camp. It was officially designated Camp Strickland by General
Orders 55 to honor the memory of Hugh Boyton Strickland who was
killed in the line of duty on 13 February 1942.
