One of the first companies organized. Organization perfected
the night after the declaration of war with Germany; raised several
hundred dollars and purchased uniforms complete. The city of
Eagle Rock purchased sixty Springfields, with 3,000 rounds of
ammunition. We equipped a rifle range, and conducted rifle practice.
Things went along fine until September, when the membership,
realizing that they were not receiving the proper support, lost
interest,We would like to see the Home Guard
properly recognized, but it looks doubtful, as new permits are
being refused, which would indicate that all licenses would be
revoked. Whether we have National Guard or not, Home Guards will
prove of great value, and we are in hearty accord with you in
trying to secure the proper kind of State assistance.
