Dan Sebby

Daniel M. Sebby was appointed director of the California State Military Museum by the Adjutant General of the State of California on 1 July 2007. The museum is the US Army Museum Activity for the California Army National Guard and is the state's official military museum as designated by the Governor and confirmed by the California State Legislature. It is one of only three state museums not under California State Parks.

Born and raised in San Luis Obispo, he is a fourth generation Californian. He enlisted at Camp San Luis Obispo in the 351st Supply and Service Company, California Army National Guard, 29 December 1976. Volunteered for active duty 1977-1992 and served at the Office of the US Property and Fiscal Officer, Headquarters State Area Command, 1113th Transportation Company, 185th Transportation Battalion; 349th Quartermaster Supply Company, 749th Ordnance Battalion; and the 115th Area Support Group. In these assignments Mr. Sebby served as a troop leader, logistical planner and operations NCO in several multinational and NATO training exercises and humanitarian operations in the United States, Germany, Belgium and Panama.

On 1 May 1998, he was appointed in the California State Military Reserve as Command Sergeant Major (CSM), California Center for Military History. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Sebby was a senior research historian in the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for the Sacramento District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

He is a member of the National Guard Association of California, Association of the United States Army, Army History Foundation, Council on America's Military Past, Society for Military History, Coast Defense Study Group and the California State Military Museum Foundation.

Awards: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal with four bronze service stars. National Defense Service Medal, California Medal of Merit with oak leaf cluster, California Commendation Medal, California Good Conduct Medal, California Service Medal with gold redwood cluster,and several Cerificates of Military Merit awarded by the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr. Sebby completed basic combat training at the US Army Training Center, Fort Jackson, SC. He is a graduate of several courses at the Army Quartermaster School and the Army Logistical Management College, Fort Lee, VA; the Army Institute for Personnel and Resources Management, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN; theArmy Institute of Health Sciences, Fort Sam Houston. TX. the Army Ordnance School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; the Battle Staff Course and National Guard Professional Education Center, Camp Joseph T. Robinson, AR, the Army Center of Military History, Fort Leslie J. McNair, Washington DC; the Air Force Historical Research Agency, Maxwell AFB, AL, and the National Archives and Records Adminitration, College Park, MD and Washington DC.

Mr. Sebby resides in Roseville
