Camp Cutting
National
Guard of California's 2nd Artillery Regiment firing M-1861 3-Inch
Ordnance Rifles at Camp Cutting
A temporary camp located
on the grounds of Monterey's Del Monte Hotel established for
the annual encampment of San Francisco's 2nd Artillery Regiment
and the 2nd Brigade Signal Corps of the National Guard of California.
The camp was held 17-25 August 1890.
The camp was named for
Brig. Gen. John T. Cutting, Commander, 2nd Brigade, National
Guard of California.
Despite being located
in one of the most desirous locations in California, the Biennial
Report of The Adjutant General stated: "The ground selected
was very dusty , so much so that it very seriously interfered
with the proper performance of camp duty."
