Named for the recently deceased Adjutant General of California, Brigadier General Edwin Forbes, this was a temporary camp located on the Rancho El Toro in Monterey County. It was located near the present-day community of Serra Village on the Monterey-Salinas Highway (California Highway 68). In August 1912, a joint Regular Army-National Guard of California training exercise was held on the ranch. It was part of the series of biennial joint exercises held since 1904, generally at what is now Atascadero in San Luis Obispo County..
