Historic California Posts, Camps, Stations and Airfields
El Segundo Storage Annex
(Naval Industrial Weapons Reserve Plant, El Segundo)

The U.S. Navy operated an Industrial Weapons Reserve Plant at the site until 1963. There are no records indicating how or when the Navy acquired the site. In 1963 the 68.8 acre site was transferred to the U.S. Air Force.

Between 1963 and 1974, the Air Force utilized the site and buildings for the performance of various contracts which included the manufacture of the B-70, Minuteman, X-15, Saturn, Apollo, Atlas, Polaris, J-2 and F-1 engines. The Federal Aviation Administration maintains three (3) aircraft hangars at the southern end of the site. The FAA currently occupies two and leases the third to Rockwell International. Numerous private concerns are also operating on the site.

In 1974 the Air Force Quitclaim Deeded the 68.8 acres of property to Rockwell International, with the exception of the FAA hangars. The Los Angeles County Flood Control District has a perpetual easement within this area of roughly .014 acre for storm drain purposes.
