Fort Monroe
 
Located near Wawona, about a mile from Inspiration Point, Mariposa County. Fort Monroe was an old relay station converted in 1891 to a military checkpoint at the entrance to Yosemite National Park. it was named for George F. Monroe, a stage driver for the A. H. Washburn Company in the1880s
