The Fullerton Home Guard was formed in 1917 in response to World War I. The volunteers, who had purchased their own uniforms and guns, drilled each Monday night in Amerige Park. Many of the militiamen shown here went on to fight in France. On May 12, 1898, an earlier Fullerton Home Guard of 72 members was formed in response to the Spanish-American War.
