McPherson Peak Microwave Relay Annex

US Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District History (1990)

The former McPherson Peak Microwave Relay annex is located 8 miles southwest of New Cuyama in Santa Barbara County, California.
The US Air Force acquired a special use permit from Los Padres National Forest on 20 December 1963.

The McPherson Peak Microwave Relay Annex was constructed by the U.S. Air Force in the early 1960's to test the feasibility of a microwave communications relay linking Edwards Air Force Base with Vandenberg Air Force Base. The former facility is believed to have consisted of a microwave tower, equipment shed, and diesel generator with fuel storage. No records were available which indicated the exact layout of the facility and equipment.

The use of the former microwave relay annex was discontinued in early 1965. The special use permit was relinquished and transferred back to the U.S. Forest Service on 5 February 1965.
