Naval Landings, Long Beach; three sites include Berth 11 (also known as Berth 11 Navy Landing, and Pico Avenue Landing, currently Berth Ell); Magnolia Avenue Landing; and Queens Way Landing (also known as Catalina Landing).

Location: Berth 11 Landing site is located in the East Basin of Long Beach Harbor. Magnolia Avenue Landing site is located inland near Queens Way and Shoreline Drive. Queens Way Landing site is located at Shoreline Drive near the mouth of the Los Angeles River.

Site History: The U.S. Navy (USN) acquired three landing sites: Berth 11 Landing in 1932 from the Long Beach Harbor Department (LBHD), Magnolia Avenue Landing in 1955 from the City of Long Beach, and Queens Way Landing sometime between 1958 and 1960 from the City of Long Beach. Records were neither complete nor specific. The sites were used as personnel landings for motor launches from the USN fleet based in area. Improvements at Berth 11 included administrative, concession, and checker offices, in addition to ramps, floats, and a parking area. Magnolia Avenue Landing improvements included a pier and several docks. Queens Way Landing improvements included several docks and possibly one building.

The permit for Berth 11 Landing was terminated by the Navy in 1955, returning the property to the LBHD. Use of the Magnolia Avenue Landing ended sometime between 1958 and 1960. Use of the Queens Way Landing ended in 1974, or sometime prior.
The Berth 11 site is owned by the LBHD. Magnolia Avenue and Queens Way Landing sites are both owned by the City of Long Beach. The Berth 11 site (land side only) is used for parking by the lessee, California United Container Terminal. Queens Way Landing is leased for used by Catalina Cruises. The Magnolia Avenue Landing site is owned by the City of Long Beach and is occupied by city streets. The harbor was filled in at this location as a result of dredging and reclamation activities conducted between 1960 and 1964.

No USN improvements are known to remain at any of the landing sites.

The U.S. Navy (USN) acquired three landing sites and an auto parking area. Use of Berth 11 Landing was acquired by the USN from the Long Beach Harbor Department (LBHD) by means unknown as early as 1932. The earliest available acquisition record for Berth 11 Landing included 3.61 acres for auto parking, acquired by permit on 10 November 1936. Use of the Magnolia Avenue Landing was acquired by means unknown from the City of Long Beach in 1955. Use of Queens Way Landing was acquired by means unknown from the City of Long Beach sometime between 1958 and 1960. Records were neither complete nor specific.

The USN used the landing sites as personnel landings for motor launches from the USN fleet based in the area. Improvements at Berth 11 included one building with administrative, concession, and checker offices, in addition to ramps, floats, and a parking area. Improvements at the Magnolia Avenue site included a pier and five to seven docks. Improvements at the Queens Way Landing site included about eight docks, and possibly one building.

The USN permit for Berth 11 Landing was terminated by the Navy on 20 July 1955, returning the landing and 3.61 acres to the LBHD. The LBHD currently leases the Berth 11 property to California United Container Terminal. The land side only of Berth 11 (currently known as Berth Ell) is used for auto parking. USN use of the Magnolia Avenue Landing site was terminated sometime between 1958 and 1960. The City of Long Beach filled in the Magnolia Avenue site through dredging and reclamation activities approximately during the period 1960 to 1964. USN use of the Queens Way Landing site ended in 1974, or earlier. Queens Way Landing is owned and leased by the City of Long Beach for use by a cruise boat enterprise. No USN improvements are known to remain at any of the sites. Records were neither complete nor specific.
