Parker Auxiliary Field

US Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District History (1991)

The former Parker Auxiliary Field was located in Kern County, approximately 22 miles southwest of Bakersfield, near Taft, California. On December 22, 1941, the War Department entered into a 6-month lease with the Kern County Land Company for the use of 120 acres of land. The Army renewed the lease on July 1, 1942, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1943.

The Parker Auxiliary Field, also referred to as Gardner Auxiliary Field No.1, was used by the U.S. Army Air Forces as an airfield for pilot training purposes. Based on data from the site visit, the lease document, and an aerial photograph from 1956, it appears that Army did not make any improvements to the property other than grading an unpaved runway.

It is unclear when Parker Auxiliary Field was declared as surplus. However, the Army's lease expired on June 30, 1943, and was not renewed. The lease did not include provisions for restoration. The property is now privately owned. There are no remaining Army improvements. Currently, the site is used for agricultural purposes.
