Pond Auxiliary Field

US Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District History (1999)

The War Department acquired 158 acres of land from Kern County Land Company by Lease No.W.1105-3213 on 16 June 1941.

The site was acquired for use as a temporary landing field for airplanes and for the training of pilots. It was one of several auxiliary landing fields associated with Minter Field, which was located about 16 miles southeast of the subject site. The landing strip on the site was used for the training of pilots in landing and takeoff maneuvers as part of the basic training provided at
Minter Field. No improvements were made to the property apart from possibly hard surfacing the landing strip. There is no evidence that ordnance or ammunition were ever stored or used at the site.

The War Department disposed of the site by termination of lease in May 1944. It is currently privately owned and under cultivation.
