Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and NORTHERN WATCH
 
Eighteen personnel and one HC-130 from the California Air National Guard's 129th Rescue Wing were activated on May 1, 1999 for 140 days and deployed overseas to participate in Operation Southwest Asia (Southern Watch). Eighteen personnel rotate every 35 days for a total of four rotations.
 
On May 10, 1999, 102 personnel of the California Air National Guard's 162nd Combat Communications Group were activated at home station for 270 days for Operation Southwest Asia (Northern Watch). The first 18 members departed to the European Theater on May 27, 1999.
 
One airman from the 146th Airlift Wing's 195th Weather Flight was activated on May 10, 1999 for 270 days to perform weather duties (backfill) at Beale AFB, California.
 
Two individuals from the California Air Guard's 163rd Air Refueling Wing's 210th Weather Flight were activated on May 10, 1999 for 270 days to perform weather duties (backfill) at Davis-Monthon AFB, Arizona. One other member of the 210th was deployed to the European theater in support of Operation Southwest Asia (Southern Watch).
