Travis Air Force Base Air Defense Missile Site

Location: Travis Air Defense Missile Site is located in the City of Elmira, Solano County, California. Approximately 23 miles southwest of Sacramento and 10 miles northeast of Vacaville. The site is located off of Sievers Road.
 
Site History: Travis Air Defense Missile Site consisted of 106.34 fee acres acquired from Otto Sievers, et ux. by Declaration of Taking filed September 23, 1959. Travis Air Defense Missile Site was designated to protect major metropolitan areas and strategic military installations from aerial attack. The site was to be operated by the AIr Force and armed with the BOMARC air defense missile. This was separate from the Army's Nike-Ajax and Nike-Hercules air defense missile program.
 
The property was reported excess to GSA on April 18, 1961. By quitclaim deed dated 27 July, 1962, the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) conveyed 19.57 fee acres to the City of Dixon, reserving to the U.S. a road easement over 0.08 acres and a water well easement over 0.02 acres; the 0.1 acre easement reserved in fee disposal was then conveyed by HEW to the Dixon Unified School District of Solano County by quitclaim deed dated September 11, 1962. By quitclaim deed dated August 27, 1962, HEW conveyed 59.12 fee acres to the Vacaville Union High School District. The remaining 27.65 acres fee was conveyed by HEW to the Dixon Unified School District of Solano County by quitclaim deed dated September 11, 1962.
