Military Museum: The
California Military Museum in Old Sacramento will receive $100,000
in state funding under legislation Gov. Gray Davis has signed
into law. In signing Senate Bill 480, Davis ordered that the
$100,000, enough to run the museum for one year, be drawn from
existing state park funds. (10/14/01)

- Military History Education Project
Website Launched. The
California Military Museum, in cooperation with the University
of California at Los Angeles and California State Universities
at Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego has launched the California
Military History Education Project website at www.cmhep.org. The website contains curriculum guide and teacher
resources for the implementation of a thematic unit on California
contibutions during World War II. We would also like to thank
Governor Davis for signing Assembly Bill 211, which authorized
continued funding of this project.

- Movie Premier Benefits Museum Program On Wednesday, August 22nd Home
Box Office, along with AT&T Broadband and the California
Cable Television Associoation premiered the upcoming HBO mini-series,
Band of Brothers. This 10-part mini-series, produced by
Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan) is the true story of "Easy"
Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne
Division. It follows the members of the the company from the
units's formation in North Carolina to the end of the war. During
the opening comments, AT&T Boardband announced that they
were contributing $10,000 to the California Military History
Education Program. On behalf of the people of California, the
museum would like to thank AT&T for their generous contribution.

Military History Field Trip: On 9 June 2001, six members of the California Center
for Military History (CCMH) visited the Military Vehicle Technology
Foundation in Portola Valley. The foundation, also known as the
Littlefield Collection is the largest private armored vehicle
collection in the world. During the visit, members of the CCMH's
command group and vehicle restoration team viewed exhibit, restoration
and storage facilties.

- Soviets Invade Camp Roberts. Well, not exactly. But members
of the California Historical Group, a umbrella organization for the World War II
reenactors have lent the Camp Roberts Museum a Soviet T34/85
Tank and several World War II vehicles for display. All are in
running order and are used by the groups' activities at Camp
Roberts.

- Museum Support Organization
Changes Name: Effective
1 January 2001. the California Military Museum support organization,
the California National Guard Historical Society was renamed
the California Military Museum Foundation. The name change reflects
the growing scope of the museum's mission, preseving the total
military hiostory of California, not just that of the state's
military forces.
